U.S. President Joe Biden has promised to ensure a peaceful transfer of power to his successor, Donald Trump, who won the presidential election. "I will fulfill my duty as president. I will uphold my oath and abide by the Constitution. On January 20, here in America, there will be a peaceful transfer of power," Biden said in an address to the nation on Thursday, November 7.

According to the current president, he has directed his administration to work directly with his successor’s team "for a peaceful and orderly transition of power." He also noted that he congratulated Trump on his election victory the previous day.

Biden also expressed confidence in the "honesty, fairness, and transparency" of the U.S. electoral system. He noted that a loss in the election does not mean the Democrats have been defeated and urged his supporters not to give up. "This was a historic presidency, not because I was president, but because of everything we accomplished, everything you accomplished," Biden concluded. He also promised to make the most of his final days in office.
