On June 20, it was determined that the use of force was legitimate, and the protest of March 7-8 was peaceful - this is the reason why I criticize the current actions of the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the leader of the party For Georgia Giorgi Gakharia said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

According to him, these two protests are completely different from each other.

"There is a big difference between these two protests. Today this protest was peaceful. On June 20, protesters attacked the Parliament, tried to enter the Parliament building, and this was simply a violation. They were attacking the police, and by the way, the police were patiently bearing it for more than 3-4 hours, but when we talk about these two rallies, we simply cannot compare them, they are completely different stories.

That is why the investigation on June 20 found that there were individual facts, but overall, the use of force by the police was legitimate and there were no questions about it. When we compare these two protests, the main thing is that they are completely different from each other. This is the reason why I criticize the current actions of the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they way they acted in this situation," Gakharia said in the interview.

In addition, Gakharia also spoke about the law on agents and noted that the current government is not interested in the country getting the candidate status, and at the same time, it is interested in shifting the blame on someone else.

"When you know that more than 85% of your people support the Euro-Atlantic future of the country, but at the same time you want to keep the power, the existing governance structure, which is incompatible with European standards, you just want to blow up this process and prepare the ground to blame someone else. This is what the government has been doing.

2 months ago, they realized that most likely, Georgia, for geopolitical purposes, will receive the status of a candidate, and they started to adopt the law on agents. I am sure that unfortunately, the current government is not interested in the country getting candidate status, and at the same time, it is interested in shifting the blame on someone else.

Yes, getting the bill withdrawn is a big and important achievement of the protest, but it's not the ultimate step. We have a lot to do before December, before the final decision is made by the EU and candidate status is the only way to secure the country's Euro-Atlantic future.

Today, Georgia as a state and the Georgian people have two critical goals: how to protect the country's future Euro-Atlantic candidate status and how to hold free and fair elections, which are possible only with a strong and long-term international observation mission," said Gakharia.
