Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out police operations that resulted in the detention of five people on charges of drug-related crimes. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
According to the agency, the suspects are accused of the illegal purchase and possession of narcotic substances in especially large quantities, as well as facilitating their distribution. Among those detained are both citizens of Georgia and foreign nationals.
“During personal searches of the suspects and searches of their homes, as well as during an investigative experiment, law enforcement officers seized from locations indicated by the suspects especially large quantities of narcotic substances prepared for distribution as evidence, including: methadone, 112 tablets containing buprenorphine, and marijuana.
Among those detained are individuals whose involvement was uncovered after police carried out a substitution of a parcel sent in their name. As a result, an especially large quantity of narcotics was seized as evidence. Investigative actions conducted by law enforcement confirmed the criminal activities of the detainees.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹, and 19–260 of the Criminal Code, which предусматривают punishment of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment,” the statement says.
