The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, commented on the events unfolding in Venezuela, noting that the two main objectives of the Georgian authorities remain unchanged: restoring the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the well-being of the Georgian people.

According to him, there is no place for political sentiments or illusions in the struggle for territorial integrity. A state and a government that do not recognize Georgia’s territorial integrity can never be friends of the Georgian people—this is a fundamental truth.

“For small states like Georgia, international law has always been the main tool and shield; however, the reality is that its role and influence are irreversibly diminishing. What we have been saying has been definitively confirmed: the international order formed after World War II no longer exists. There is nothing new for us in what was announced in Venezuela today. We saw this long ago and assessed it correctly. This is precisely the historical advantage of ancient nations,” Papuashvili writes.

According to the Speaker of Parliament, Georgia has withstood similar ‘international orders’ for millennia, has gone through numerous geopolitical cataclysms, and has found its own path to survival.

“It was precisely this knowledge that preserved our statehood when others disappeared. Today, our task also remains unchanged—to avoid damaging the state amid the storm stirred up by great powers and to safely bring it to a secure harbor. Global events bring another important outcome for our society—they finally tear off the masks. As before, today they are the best catalyst for lustration,” he noted.
